Build relationships with customers
It’s true what they say, you only get one chance to make a first impression. Our kitchen designers are approachable, friendly and good at listening to customers’ wants and needs, supporting them throughout their journey. They aim to continuously inspire customers by talking passionately about the kitchen or bathroom customers dream of.
Becky-Anne, a Design Consultant at our Exeter Showroom, says: “Design Consultants support customers from the moment we meet them in the store, at their home for a home consultation, when we reveal the design and when the installation is completed at the end. It's a complete end-to-end service and that one Design Consultant stays with the customer for the whole of that journey.”
Carry out home visits
No two days are the same as a kitchen designer at Wickes. You might be in-store providing consultations, arranging installation from our in-house installations team, or even carrying out a home visit measuring up.
Our home visits are a great way to understand and visualise the kitchens and bathrooms our customers want. To really understand not only their vision but what works best for them because no two homes are ever the same.
Our designers know how just important finishing touches are to a kitchen. To make a design personal, the end result has to work for that specific customer.
Becky Anne told us, “Before I go out on a home consultation I really love it if a customer has done some research in advance, and then we can work on how I can help them be inspired to create that beautiful kitchen.”
Create innovative designs
Our kitchen designers are experts at using Fusion 2020 CAD software to create innovative designs that are also practical and centred around our customers' lifestyles. Customer satisfaction is our top priority, therefore our Design Consultants need a keen eye for detail so that they can play a big part in creating homes people can be proud of.
Richard, a Design Consultant at our Braintree showroom, says “It’s all about making the design make sense because there's nothing worse than a fabulous-looking kitchen that doesn't work for a customer’s lifestyle. The great thing with the computer graphics is that we can showcase the design ideas that we've we've come up with for your space and it's a great opportunity to see how your space is going to take shape with our products.”
Continuously develop skills
You don’t have to have previous industry or sales experience to work as a kitchen designer at Wickes. In fact, some of our highest earners had never been in this kind of role before.
If you’re just starting out in your career as a kitchen designer, then we’ll get you up to speed as long as you come with a positive and enthusiastic attitude and a passion for stretching yourself. All of our design consultants, even qualified professionals, go through a 12-week crash course to become a designer when they join us. This way, they become Wickesified and understand the Wickes way and products.
Over time, you’ll develop extensive skills so that kitchen design will come naturally to you. Michaela, a Design Consultant at our Guildford showroom, says: “It's when we know what functional things that we need, like larders etc, that we can really start to design the space to work for the customer.”
